PM Shehbaz Questions PTI’s 13-Year KP Rule, Rs800bn NFC Spending
The prime minister also questioned how many hospitals, universities and dams had been constructed in accordance with the promises made by PTI during its years in power.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s 13-year rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, accusing it of making tall claims instead of delivering public services and questioning how Rs800 billion received under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award was utilised.
Addressing a meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary party, the prime minister questioned the PTI’s performance in governance, counterterrorism, healthcare, education and infrastructure development.
He asked the former provincial administration to explain how many Safe City projects had been established using the Rs800 billion in NFC funds and what measures had been taken to strengthen the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
The prime minister also questioned how many hospitals, universities and dams had been constructed in accordance with the promises made by PTI during its years in power.
“For 13 years, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government made tall claims instead of serving the people,” Shehbaz Sharif said.
He accused the PTI leadership of engaging in political confrontation, spreading hostility and organising long marches and sit-ins rather than focusing on the province’s development and public welfare.
The prime minister defended the federal government’s recent decision regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying timely intervention was necessary to prevent further damage to the province.
He maintained that delaying the decision could have resulted in greater harm to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its residents.
“A timely decision was necessary to protect the people, the country, the economy and society,” he said.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasised that the decision had been taken in the broader national interest, highlighting the need to safeguard public welfare and economic stability.
Despite his criticism of the previous provincial administration, the prime minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the development and prosperity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He pledged to continue efforts aimed at improving public services, strengthening development initiatives and ensuring the welfare of the province’s residents.
The prime minister’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the federal government’s intervention in the PTI-led provincial administration.
