Salman Safdar Meets Imran Khan After 7 Months, Bushra Bibi After 11 Months
According to Salman Safdar, jail authorities arranged a 40-minute meeting with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi at approximately 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
Barrister Salman Safdar has met former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail, following months of restricted access and repeated requests for meetings.
According to Salman Safdar, jail authorities arranged a 40-minute meeting with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi at approximately 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
The lawyer said he was allowed to meet Bushra Bibi after 11 months and Imran Khan after seven months, following repeated applications and requests to the jail administration.
Safdar maintained that the 40-minute meeting was insufficient to discuss all pending cases and legal matters involving the former prime minister and his wife.
He said both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi briefed him about their health conditions and the circumstances of their detention at Adiala Jail.
The lawyer further revealed that the couple provided fresh instructions regarding certain legal matters and ongoing cases.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of repeated protests and demands by PTI leaders, supporters and family members seeking access to the jailed former prime minister.
PTI has consistently raised concerns over restrictions on meetings with Imran Khan, demanding that his lawyers, family members and party representatives be allowed regular access in accordance with applicable prison rules and court directions.
The issue of access to Imran Khan has remained a major point of contention between PTI and the authorities, with party supporters staging demonstrations and repeatedly calling for an end to restrictions on meetings.
PTI leaders have also argued that prolonged restrictions on legal consultations affect the former prime minister’s ability to communicate effectively with his legal team regarding ongoing court proceedings.
Imran Khan has remained at the centre of Pakistan’s political tensions since his imprisonment, while his party continues to demand access to its founder and raise concerns over his detention conditions.
Tuesday’s meeting marks a significant development in the ongoing dispute over access to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, although Salman Safdar maintained that the limited duration prevented a comprehensive discussion of their legal cases.
