Pakistan has played an active role in mediation efforts between the two countries since the United States and Israel attacked Iran in February.
The latest regional developments are also expected to feature in the discussions.
According to the report, Pakistan’s efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran are also on the agenda of the field marshal’s visit to Tehran.
Pakistan has played an active role in mediation efforts between the two countries since the United States and Israel attacked Iran in February.
Pakistan hosted talks between the two sides in April and also helped broker a temporary ceasefire in June. However, the agreement expired in July, and tensions have persisted in and around the Strait of Hormuz since then.
Munir’s visit comes as tensions in the Middle East remain high, with the United States continuing a naval counter-blockade in response to Iran’s blockade of US ports.
Tehran has urged Washington to accept its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route for global trade through which around 20 per cent of the world’s oil and gas supplies passed before the war began.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has ruled out the possibility of a nuclear attack on Iran. However, in an interview with a US cable news outlet last week, he indicated the possibility of further strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
