Pakistan, Egypt condemn Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia
Foreign ministers reaffirm support for kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
Pakistan and Egypt on Sunday condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed their support for the kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have carried out several missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia this month.
One of the attacks targeted Riyadh’s international airport, killing at least 12 people and injuring more than 300, while further attacks continued afterwards.
According to the Saudi-led coalition supporting the internationally recognised government in Yemen, two ballistic missiles fired towards Khamis Mushait were intercepted and destroyed early on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke by telephone with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty on Sunday.
The two leaders discussed the latest regional developments.
“Both leaders discussed recent developments in the region and strongly condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. They expressed full solidarity with the Kingdom and reaffirmed their support for its sovereignty, territorial integrity and security,” the Foreign Office said.
Pakistan and Egypt are also members of the R-4 group, a grouping of four regional countries that includes Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
The group emerged in March, following the outbreak of the war involving Iran, to provide the four countries with a common forum for consultations on the conflict and broader regional security concerns.
According to the Foreign Office, Dar and Abdelatty also discussed cooperation under the R-4 framework.
The statement added that the two ministers looked forward to the next R-4 meeting to further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation and coordination on regional issues.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain close and friendly relations, and Islamabad has strengthened its defence ties with the kingdom in recent months.
Pakistan signed a bilateral defence agreement with Saudi Arabia in September 2025.
In August this year, it also entered into a trilateral defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
Under the trilateral agreement, an attack on any one of the three countries would be considered aggression against all member states.
