36 Antiquities Smuggled from Pakistan to US Returned to Pakistani Government
According to Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, Aamir Ahmed Atozai, the legal repatriation of the stolen antiquities will provide future generations with an opportunity to learn about their civilisation and cultural heritage.
Thirty-six antiquities stolen from Pakistan and smuggled to the United States are being returned to the Pakistani government following an agreement signed in New York.
The agreement was signed by Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, Aamir Ahmed Atozai, during a ceremony at the New York County District Attorney’s Office.
The recovered antiquities include a Grey Schist Figure of a Yakshi, dating to the 4th century CE, along with 35 Terracotta Fertility Figures dating back between 2,700 and 3,000 BC.
According to Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, Aamir Ahmed Atozai, the legal repatriation of the stolen antiquities will provide future generations with an opportunity to learn about their civilisation and cultural heritage.
The antiquities are now set to be brought back to Pakistan.
