Government-PPP Delegation to Meet PTI Leadership Today

The federal government and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have formed a joint committee to hold talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), with a joint delegation set to meet the PTI leadership today to discuss the prevailing political situation.

The decision was taken during a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Presidency yesterday evening, according to a statement issued by the President’s Office.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Rana Sanaullah, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan and Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Tauqir Shah attended the meeting.

Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Sharjeel Inam Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah were also present.

According to the Presidency, a joint committee has been constituted to engage the PTI leadership in talks over the current political situation.

The committee comprises Mohsin Naqvi, Rana Sanaullah, Amir Muqam, Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar and Aijaz Jakhrani.

The meeting decided that a joint delegation of the federal government and PPP would meet the PTI leadership on Friday.

The meeting also discussed the country’s overall political and security situation, with particular concern expressed over the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz reviewed the national security situation and stressed the need to further strengthen the national resolve against terrorism.

They also emphasised effective coordination among all relevant institutions to ensure peace and stability in the country.

Separately, PTI leader Aamir Dogar confirmed that the government had contacted PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and senior party leader Asad Qaiser.

Speaking on Geo News programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, Dogar said the long march was discussed during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House and that PTI had been informed that the prime minister had directed the government to engage the opposition.

Dogar confirmed that PTI leaders would meet the joint government-PPP delegation on Friday.
