Dr Najeeb Naqi Elected 25th President of Azad Kashmir
Dr Najeeb Naqi secured 32 votes, including 31 from PML-N members and one from a member of the Dast-o-Bazu Party.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) nominee Dr Najeeb Naqi was elected the 25th President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) after securing 32 votes in the presidential election held in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
The assembly met to elect the new president, with 45 members casting their votes. Polling continued until 1pm.
Najeeb Naqi Secures 32 Votes
Dr Najeeb Naqi secured 32 votes, including 31 from PML-N members and one from a member of the Dast-o-Bazu Party.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Chaudhry Latif Akbar, who contested against Naqi, received 13 votes, while one member remained absent.
Following the vote count, Dr Najeeb Naqi was declared successful and elected as the 25th President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Who is Dr Najeeb Naqi?
Dr Najeeb Naqi belongs to the Sudhnoti-Pallandri constituency in the Poonch Division of Azad Kashmir.
He previously served as AJK health minister from 2006 to 2011. He also held the health portfolio during the PML-N government in Azad Kashmir from 2016 to 2021.
