Afghan Taliban forces opened unprovoked fire along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Taida sector of Upper Kurram in an attempt to facilitate the infiltration of foreign terrorists into Pakistani territory, according to security sources. Pakistan Army responded with effective retaliatory action, targeting Afghan Taliban positions across the border.

Security sources said the incident occurred in the Taida sector near Orghuz Garhi in Upper Kurram, where Afghan Taliban personnel initiated firing to facilitate the cross-border movement of foreign terrorists.

In response, Pakistan Army targeted Afghan Taliban’s Topsar post and Shipola base camp in the upper sector.

According to security sources, several Afghan Taliban personnel were reportedly killed during Pakistan Army’s retaliatory action near the Ghozgarh border, while the Shipola base camp was reportedly completely destroyed.

The retaliatory action also forced Afghan Taliban personnel to vacate one of their border posts. Security sources said the exchange of fire was continuing in the area.

The latest incident comes amid prolonged tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan over cross-border terrorism and the continued presence of terrorist organisations operating from Afghan soil.

Tensions between the two countries escalated in October 2025 following border skirmishes, which were subsequently followed by talks aimed at reducing hostilities and addressing Pakistan’s security concerns.

However, the situation deteriorated again in February 2026, when fresh clashes erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Since then, the two countries have not resumed talks, while concerns over terrorism originating from Afghan territory have continued to grow.

Pakistan has repeatedly raised the issue of terrorist groups operating from Afghanistan and carrying out attacks inside Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Islamabad has consistently maintained that Afghan territory must not be used by terrorist organisations to launch attacks against Pakistan. The presence of terrorist groups across the border and their attempts to infiltrate Pakistani territory remain major security concerns.

The latest unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces in Upper Kurram, reportedly intended to facilitate the movement of foreign terrorists, marks another escalation in tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

Security sources reiterated that Pakistan Army remains vigilant and determined to defend the country’s borders, territorial integrity and national security.
