The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has concluded a volunteer open-heart surgery campaign in Brazil, with its medical team successfully performing 23 procedures, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The campaign was conducted in Curitiba, Brazil, from September 9 to 16, 2026, with the participation of 11 specialised medical volunteers.

According to SPA, all 23 open-heart surgical procedures carried out during the campaign were successful.

The initiative forms part of Saudi Arabia’s volunteer and humanitarian medical programmes implemented through KSrelief to provide specialised healthcare services to patients in different parts of the world.

Saudi Arabia’s International Medical Outreach

Established in 2015, KSrelief serves as Saudi Arabia’s principal humanitarian relief agency and has implemented health, food security, shelter, education and emergency assistance programmes in countries across the world.

Healthcare has remained a major component of the centre’s international humanitarian work, with Saudi volunteer medical teams conducting specialised programmes in areas including open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterisation, paediatric surgery, ophthalmology and other surgical specialties.

KSrelief has previously deployed specialised medical teams for surgical and healthcare campaigns in several countries, providing procedures and treatment to patients who may otherwise have limited access to specialised medical services.

The Kingdom has also been expanding its domestic healthcare sector as part of its broader transformation programmes, with an emphasis on specialised care, digital health, preventive medicine and improving healthcare delivery.

The Curitiba campaign extends Saudi Arabia’s overseas medical outreach to Brazil and reflects KSrelief’s use of specialised volunteer medical teams as part of the Kingdom’s wider humanitarian assistance programmes.
