Saudi Arabia has successfully separated Moroccan conjoined twins Saja and Doha in a complex six-hour surgical operation at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh, marking the 73rd successful separation surgery under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program.

The successful operation, carried out on Thursday at King Abdulaziz Medical City of the Ministry of National Guard, comes a day after PPC Digital reported that the Saudi medical team had begun the complex separation procedure, which was initially expected to take approximately 10 hours across six stages.

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court, Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), and head of the medical and surgical team, announced that the surgery had been successfully completed in just six hours, significantly ahead of the initially projected duration.

Saudi Arabia’s medical team successfully separated Moroccan conjoined twins Saja and Doha in a complex six-hour operation involving 23 medical professionals in Riyadh.

The operation involved 23 consultants, specialists, nurses, and technicians from multiple medical disciplines, including anesthesiology, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and other supporting specialties.

The twins were joined at the lower chest and abdomen and shared several vital organs, including the pericardium, liver, and intestines, making the separation a highly delicate and technically demanding procedure.

Dr. Al Rabeeah said the successful surgery represented the fourth separation of Moroccan conjoined twins and the 73rd operation performed under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program.

Over more than 35 years, the Saudi program has evaluated 159 cases involving conjoined twins from 28 countries, establishing the Kingdom as a leading international center for complex pediatric separation surgeries and humanitarian medical assistance.

The program’s achievements reflect Saudi Arabia’s longstanding commitment to providing specialized medical treatment to children from different parts of the world, regardless of nationality.

Dr. Al Rabeeah attributed the program’s continued success to the direct support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

The twins’ family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Saudi leadership for providing specialized medical care and praised the dedication and professionalism of the surgical team.

The latest successful operation further strengthens Saudi Arabia’s international reputation in advanced pediatric surgery and humanitarian healthcare, adding another milestone to the Kingdom’s decades-long record of treating conjoined twins from around the world.
