Saudi Arabia News: Football, Yemen Aid and Global Health Summit
From sport and humanitarian engagement to Riyadh’s growing role as a venue for major international events
From Saudi Arabia’s winning start at the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup to a new humanitarian initiative for displaced Yemenis and preparations for a major global healthcare gathering in Riyadh.
Here are three key developments from the Kingdom.
1. Saudi Arabia Beat Kuwait 1-0 in Khaleeji 27 Opener
The Saudi national football team began its campaign in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup (Khaleeji 27) with a 1-0 victory over Kuwait at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
The only goal of the match came in the 73rd minute when Kuwait’s Yousef Al-Haqan inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
The victory gave Saudi Arabia three points and put the team at the top of Group A, while Kuwait remained without a point pending the completion of the opening round.
2. KSrelief, IOM Sign Program to Support 13,300 Displaced Yemenis
Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah signed a joint executive program with International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director General Amy Pope to improve living conditions for internally displaced persons in Yemen in 2026.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the High-level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Under the program, shelter kits, tents and enhanced emergency shelter kits will be distributed to internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups, benefiting an estimated 13,300 people.
The agreement is part of KSrelief’s efforts to strengthen coordination with UN organisations and humanitarian agencies and provide safer and more dignified living conditions for displaced communities in Yemen.
3. Riyadh Global Health Exhibition Announces 500+ Speakers
The Global Health Exhibition has announced speakers for its 2026 conference program, which will cover healthcare systems, clinical innovation, digital health and investment.
The event will take place from October 26 to 29 at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center in Malham, north of Riyadh, bringing together more than 500 speakers across four conference stages.
Its Leaders’ Summit will convene senior executives, policymakers and healthcare leaders for discussions on health systems, artificial intelligence, innovation, resilience and evolving models of care delivery, including a growing focus on prevention and long-term health.
