Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Rajeh Tami Al-Bugamy, arrived in Islamabad on Saturday to assume his diplomatic responsibilities, succeeding Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki after his nearly nine-year tenure in the country.

According to the Saudi Embassy in Islamabad, Ambassador Dr Rajeh was received on arrival by Khushaan Saeed, Assistant Director at the Protocol Department of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with several members of the Saudi diplomatic mission.

Dr Rajeh is a retired major general who joined the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the rank of ambassador. He holds a doctorate in human resource management from Brunel University London.

Dr Rajeh succeeds Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, who concluded his nearly nine-year tenure as Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan in August 2026. Al-Malki served as ambassador from 2017 until August 2026, having previously served as the Kingdom’s military attaché in Islamabad from 2014. His long association with Pakistan spanned more than a decade and coincided with extensive high-level political, economic, security and defence engagement between Islamabad and Riyadh.

The change of ambassador comes amid close engagement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which maintain longstanding political, economic, defence and people-to-people ties. The two countries regularly coordinate on regional and international issues, while Saudi Arabia remains an important economic partner for Pakistan and hosts a large Pakistani expatriate community.

Bilateral relations have expanded further in recent years through cooperation in investment, energy, trade, security and defence, alongside regular exchanges between the leadership of the two countries. The arrival of Ambassador Al-Baqmi marks the beginning of his diplomatic assignment in Islamabad as the two countries continue their high-level engagement.
