The Makkah Alliance for Defense has decided to immediately move towards the practical implementation of its collective defence commitments, including providing agreed military forces and capabilities for rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia, following an emergency high-level meeting in Riyadh on Monday.

The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the Strategic-Political and Defense Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defense, comprising Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, held on October 5 to address security developments and threats facing the Kingdom, according to a joint statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The committee decided that the three countries would take necessary measures to provide the agreed military forces and capabilities and ensure their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia, in accordance with approved arrangements and the respective national laws of the three countries.

The move is aimed at strengthening military readiness, integration and the collective capacity of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye to confront and counter security threats.

Pakistan’s Lt Gen Nauman Mahmood Named First Secretary-General

As part of the institutional development of the alliance, the committee appointed Pakistan’s Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood (Ret.) as the first Secretary-General of the Makkah Alliance for Defense for a three-year term.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye welcomed his appointment and expressed confidence that he would contribute to advancing the alliance and achieving its objectives.

Makkah, Madinah Attacks Strongly Condemned

The three countries strongly condemned the attempted targeting of Makkah and Madinah, as well as continuing attacks against Saudi cities and civilian and economic facilities.

They reaffirmed their unequivocal rejection of any attack or threat against Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity.

Pakistan and Türkiye also praised the vigilance, readiness and professionalism of the Saudi Armed Forces in countering threats and attacks against the Kingdom.

Alliance Affirms Collective Defence

The committee reviewed the outcomes of political and military consultations held ahead of the meeting and approved the recommendations presented to it, declaring that the Makkah Alliance for Defense represents a firm commitment to collective defence and a unified position in confronting threats.

The three countries affirmed that the security of each member is an integral part of their collective security.

They said translating the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defense into practical measures demonstrates the credibility of their collective-defence commitment, strengthens deterrence and reaffirms their determination to defend their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The emergency committee meeting follows the September 25 meeting of the military chiefs of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye in Riyadh, where the three sides discussed threats facing the Kingdom and agreed to strengthen intelligence sharing, military coordination and capability integration.
