KP Government Claims Billions in Corruption Evidence Against Sohail Afridi
Provincial authorities say cases will be referred to NAB and Anti-Corruption following preliminary inquiries.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has claimed to have obtained evidence of corruption and financial irregularities involving billions of rupees against ousted Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, saying arrest warrants have been issued but he has not yet been formally arrested.
According to the provincial government, Afridi is currently in protective custody and is being kept in safe hands, with authorities ensuring his well-being.
The government maintained that despite the issuance of arrest warrants, Afridi has not been arrested, while investigations into alleged corruption and misuse of public funds are underway.
Officials said records have been sought from all provincial government departments as part of a broader investigation into alleged financial misconduct during the previous administration.
The provincial government stated that following preliminary inquiries, cases involving suspected corruption and financial irregularities would be referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Anti-Corruption Establishment for further investigation and legal action.
Authorities are also examining alleged corruption and irregularities in the Sehat Card programme, one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s major public healthcare initiatives.
The government has not disclosed the precise amount of the alleged corruption or provided details of the evidence obtained against the former chief minister.
In a separate political development, the KP government claimed that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was unhappy with the current technocratic government setup because his party had not been given a share in the administration.
The provincial government’s allegations come amid continuing political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the removal of the PTI-led provincial administration.
No response from Sohail Afridi or JUI-F to the latest allegations was included in the information released by the provincial government.
