Pakistan’s federal government has ordered the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) under Article 245 of the Constitution, following the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in the province on October 11, 2026.

The federal Ministry of Interior has issued an official notification authorising the deployment of troops to assist the civil administration and ensure the protection of citizens, public and private property, and government installations.

According to the notification, the army will be responsible for supporting the administration in maintaining security, safeguarding civilian lives and property, and protecting government infrastructure.

The deployment will remain in effect throughout the emergency imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11, 2026.

The notification further states that the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will determine the required number of troops in consultation with General Headquarters (GHQ).

The strength of the deployed forces will be finalised in coordination with the Military Operations Directorate.

The official order regarding the deployment of the Pakistan Army will subsequently be published in Part II of the Gazette of Pakistan.

The military deployment follows the federal government’s decision to impose emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, citing escalating terrorist attacks, deteriorating law and order, and the provincial government’s alleged failure to effectively combat terrorism.

Islamabad Placed on Red Alert, Security Tightened Across Capital

Meanwhile, security has been significantly tightened in Islamabad following the imposition of emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Additional police personnel have been deployed across the federal capital, and authorities have issued a red alert.

According to sources, heavy police contingents have been stationed at major intersections, public squares and entry points to the city.

Access to Islamabad’s Red Zone has been restricted, with unauthorised individuals barred from entering the high-security area.

Rangers personnel have also been deployed to protect sensitive buildings and installations.

Sources said all Superintendents of Police (SPs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) have been directed to remain in the field and maintain strict surveillance of the security situation.

Police officers have also been instructed to take immediate action wherever banners or gatherings are observed.

Authorities have ordered the arrest of individuals violating Section 144, which restricts certain public gatherings and activities.

The enhanced security arrangements in Islamabad come as the federal government implements emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the PTI continues to oppose the decision.
