New Fuel Price Hike Pushes Diesel Above Rs415
According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Tuesday night, the price of petrol has been raised to Rs384.34 per litre, from Rs380.24.
Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan have risen again amid heightened volatility in global oil markets, with the government increasing the price of petrol by Rs4.10 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs6.41 per litre, effective from Wednesday.
According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Tuesday night, the price of petrol has been raised to Rs384.34 per litre, from Rs380.24.
The price of high-speed diesel has increased to Rs415.82 per litre, compared with the previous price of Rs409.42.
According to OGRA officials, the revised prices took effect at midnight between Tuesday and Wednesday and have been set for September 16.
The latest increase comes against the backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have added to uncertainty in global energy markets. The ongoing US-Iran conflict, along with recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, has raised concerns over regional security, oil supplies and key energy and shipping routes.
Such developments can contribute to fluctuations in international crude prices and increase pressure on fuel-importing countries such as Pakistan, which remains dependent on international markets to meet a significant portion of its petroleum requirements.
Officials said the latest adjustment in Pakistan’s petroleum prices was made in view of fluctuations in the international oil market.
