Natalie Baker, Mohsin Naqvi Discuss Regional Security
The meeting assumes added significance amid continuing regional diplomatic activity, particularly following Naqvi’s recent visit to Iran.
US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad on Wednesday for talks covering regional security, peace and stability, bilateral relations and prospects for investment.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of evolving regional developments and ahead of the planned PTI march, while Pakistan has also remained engaged in diplomatic efforts concerning tensions between the United States and Iran.
According to an official statement, Naqvi and Baker discussed efforts to promote peace and stability in light of the latest regional situation, as well as regional security issues and Pakistan’s efforts for peace.
The two sides also discussed strengthening Pakistan-US relations and exploring opportunities for investment. They agreed to enhance mutual contacts to further expand bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Ambassador Baker acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
“Pakistan is a strong wall between the world and terrorism,” Naqvi said.
The meeting assumes added significance amid continuing regional diplomatic activity, particularly following Naqvi’s recent visit to Iran. Pakistan has maintained contacts with both Washington and Tehran and has previously been involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating communication and reducing tensions between the two sides.
Naqvi has also held engagements with Iranian officials during visits to Iran as Islamabad has continued consultations with Tehran on regional security and bilateral issues.
However, the official statement on Wednesday’s Naqvi-Baker meeting did not say whether US-Iran negotiations or the planned PTI march were specifically discussed.
