Pakistan has rejected India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir, telling the United Nations that the disputed territory “never was, is not and never will be an integral part of India.”

Exercising Pakistan’s Right of Reply to a statement by the Indian representative in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, Pakistan’s First Secretary Sarfraz Ahmed said Jammu and Kashmir was not an internal matter of India but an internationally recognised dispute.

He said the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people was guaranteed under relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

“Jammu and Kashmir never was, is not and never will be an integral part of India,” Ahmed said.

The Pakistani diplomat said India was violating its international obligations by refusing to implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on the dispute.

He also said discrimination and violence against religious minorities in India had taken a systematic form.

Ahmed further accused India of supporting and financing terrorist groups against Pakistan.

Reaffirming Islamabad’s position, the First Secretary said Pakistan remained committed to dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
