Islamabad Police have introduced a new social media policy imposing restrictions on the use of social media by officers and personnel across all ranks, with violations to result in departmental action.

Under the policy, police personnel have been barred from making videos or taking photographs in uniform. The use of police uniforms for personal publicity, fame or glamour has also been strictly prohibited.

Personnel will face action for recording videos in uniform inside official vehicles, police offices or at private locations.

The policy also prohibits officers and personnel from making unauthorised statements to the media, speaking on public forums or writing articles without prior approval.

Political, Religious Views Restricted

Islamabad Police personnel will not be permitted to express personal political or religious views on social media.

Sharing departmental or confidential documents, photographs or other restricted material on social media has also been prohibited.

Even content intended to highlight positive activities of Islamabad Police will require prior approval from the DIG Headquarters.

Under the new framework, information regarding police activities will be released only through the Public Relations Branch of the Capital Police Officer (CPO).

Unit Heads Responsible for Monitoring

Heads of police units will be responsible for monitoring the social media activities of personnel working under their command and ensuring compliance with the policy.

Departmental action has been ordered against personnel found violating the new restrictions.

The policy has been approved by the Inspector General of Islamabad Police and comes into effect immediately.
