The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of National Coordinators meeting began in Islamabad on Monday, with an Indian delegation among representatives of member states participating in the gathering.

The three-day meeting will continue in Islamabad and conclude on September 30. It is the first meeting of the Council of National Coordinators (CNC) under Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) for 2026–27.

Pakistan’s National Coordinator for the SCO, Dr M. Faisal, is chairing the meeting, which is being attended by national coordinators from SCO member states as well as representatives of the SCO Secretariat.

An Indian delegation is also participating in the Islamabad meeting. According to Indian media reports, Additional Secretary Alok Dimri of India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is representing the Indian delegation.

The visit marks the arrival of an Indian delegation in Pakistan after nearly two years and comes against the backdrop of strained relations between Islamabad and New Delhi. The two countries, however, continue to engage through multilateral platforms, including the SCO.

The national coordinators are discussing a wide range of issues related to cooperation and coordination within the organisation, including the programme of activities under Pakistan’s chairmanship, preparations for upcoming SCO meetings and events, and other matters on the organisation’s agenda.

Pakistan has assumed the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026–27 under the theme “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.”

Under its chairmanship, Pakistan plans to focus on promoting greater regional connectivity, fostering innovation, enhancing economic cooperation and strengthening people-to-people contacts, with the aim of translating the shared vision of SCO member states into practical and mutually beneficial initiatives.

The Foreign Office confirmed India’s participation in the meeting to PPC Digital, adding that Pakistan would work closely with all SCO member states and the SCO Secretariat to advance the priorities of its chairmanship and further strengthen cooperation within the organisation.

The Islamabad meeting marks one of the first major engagements under Pakistan’s chairmanship and is expected to contribute to preparations for a series of high-level SCO meetings and activities during the coming year.

Pakistan is scheduled to host the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting in August 2027.
