Afghan Taliban Responsible for Preventing Attacks on Pakistan: Info Ministry
The ministry maintained that the presence and threat of terrorist organisations operating inside Afghanistan cannot be concealed or dismissed.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has said that the Afghan Taliban government bears responsibility for preventing Afghan territory from being used to launch terrorist attacks against Pakistan, urging Kabul to respond to concrete evidence of terrorism rather than divert attention through rhetoric.
In a statement, the ministry said terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan reflect the Afghan Taliban government’s failure to address the threat posed by terrorist groups operating from its territory.
The ministry maintained that the presence and threat of terrorist organisations operating inside Afghanistan cannot be concealed or dismissed.
Referring to a United Nations Security Council report, the ministry said the document highlighted the presence of approximately 6,000 members of a proscribed organisation in Afghanistan and also referred to the Afghan Taliban’s support for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The ministry urged the Afghan Taliban government to take concrete measures instead of denying the terrorism threat, calling for verifiable action against terrorist sanctuaries and networks operating from Afghan territory.
It stressed that the Afghan Taliban must respond to evidence of terrorist activities through meaningful counterterrorism measures rather than statements aimed at deflecting attention from the issue.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also criticised the Afghan Taliban government’s restrictions on girls’ education and violations of fundamental human rights, saying these policies contradict the Taliban administration’s own claims.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue, the ministry said meaningful progress would depend on the Afghan Taliban fulfilling their counterterrorism commitments.
The statement emphasised that responsibility for preventing Afghan soil from being used to carry out attacks against Pakistan rests with the Afghan Taliban government.
Pakistan will take all necessary measures to protect and defend its citizens, the ministry added.
