Saudi Crown Prince, Egyptian President Discuss Regional Security Amid Rising Tensions
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held bilateral and expanded talks in Egypt, discussing strategic ties and the latest regional developments, including regional security, freedom of maritime navigation and coordination of efforts.
The meeting comes amid rising tensions involving the Houthi militia. Ahead of the visit, the Saudi Cabinet, chaired by Mohammed bin Salman, strongly condemned what it described as continued and deliberate Houthi attacks targeting civilians and civilian sites in the Kingdom.
The Cabinet reaffirmed that Saudi Arabia’s security, territorial integrity and protection of its resources are principles that cannot be compromised. It also stressed the Kingdom’s legitimate right to defend itself and protect its sovereignty, citizens, residents and vital interests in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
Egypt has also condemned continued Houthi attacks targeting civilian sites in Saudi Arabia, underscoring concerns over the wider regional security situation.
The talks underscored close coordination between Riyadh and Cairo on regional security and efforts to prevent further escalation, with both sides addressing developments that could affect regional stability and maritime security.
Saudi Arabia has maintained that attacks targeting civilian areas and vital infrastructure pose a serious threat to regional stability and security.
