Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has offered Tehran’s help in resolving differences between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis, calling for dialogue amid heightened regional tensions.

In an interview with a Qatari broadcaster, Pezeshkian said Saudi Arabia and the Houthis should resolve their differences through negotiations, stressing that regional disputes should be addressed through dialogue rather than military confrontation.

The Iranian president alleged that the United States and Israel had used the airspace of Muslim countries to attack Iran, after which Tehran targeted US bases in the region that it said had been used in attacks against Iran.

Pezeshkian accused Washington of seeking to create divisions among Muslim countries to advance its interests and gain control over the region’s resources.

Strait of Hormuz Dispute

Turning to tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, Pezeshkian blamed the United States for the situation and argued that restricting Iran’s access routes would naturally lead Tehran to consider closing the strategic waterway.

He said the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz could not be resolved through force and required negotiations.

Pezeshkian also said repeated US attacks and sanctions had eroded Iran’s trust in direct negotiations with Washington.

Pakistan, Qatar Mediating Between Iran and US

The Iranian president said Pakistan and Qatar were acting as intermediaries between Iran and the United States and were conveying Tehran’s messages to Washington.

According to Pezeshkian, the mediation was taking place on the basis of a previously agreed memorandum of understanding, while the United States would have to clarify its position on the matter.

Pezeshkian said regional security could only be ensured through cooperation among countries in the region, arguing that the Middle East did not need an external power acting as its “guardian”.

He added that Iran would remain steadfast despite US sanctions and Israel’s position.
