41 Countries Take Part in Multinational Maritime Defence Coalition Meeting in Jeddah
The coalition aims to contribute to the protection of freedom of navigation, maritime facilities and shipping routes, while strengthening international cooperation and coordinated responses to maritime security threats.
The Multinational Maritime Defence Coalition held its fourth planning meeting at the Western Fleet Command in Jeddah on Thursday, as the coalition moves towards strengthening its operational readiness and maritime capabilities.
The meeting was attended by 14 naval force commanders, planners, ambassadors and representatives of the European Union, along with representatives from 41 partner countries, according to a Saudi Ministry of Defense statement.
The meeting reviewed the coalition’s progress and achievements during the previous phase, following its transition from the establishment phase to the operational phase. The coalition has reached its Initial Operational Capability (IOC) and is now working on integrating capabilities and preparing for operational implementation in the maritime operations area.
Participants also reviewed developments during the previous phase, including the signing of the coalition’s charter and joint declaration by 28 countries. Discussions focused on operational requirements, the contributions of participating countries and the integration of capabilities to ensure coordinated implementation of the multinational maritime defence mission.
The ministry said the fourth planning meeting marks an advanced stage in the coalition’s development, with the focus now shifting towards enhancing operational readiness and preparing for implementation under unified command.
