Houthi Drone Targeted Madinah Power Station Serving Prophet’s Mosque

The Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen has said an investigation found the Houthis responsible for a drone attack targeting the Taibah electricity distribution station in Madinah earlier this week.
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Malki said the attack took place at 5:11am on Tuesday, September 29, and targeted the electricity distribution facility in Madinah.
According to Al-Malki, an investigation by the competent authorities, including an after-action review and examination of the wreckage of the drone used in the attack, established the involvement of the Houthis in planning and carrying out the strike.
The attack took one power transformer out of service but did not affect the wider electricity network, the spokesperson said.
Al-Malki said the targeted civilian facility provides electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, describing the attack as a continuation of what he said were Houthi attempts to target the Two Holy Mosques and provoke millions of Muslims around the world by targeting Makkah and Madinah.
The Coalition said it would continue implementing measures aimed at deterring further Houthi attacks and ensuring the protection of the Two Holy Mosques as well as the safety of pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah.
The latest announcement comes amid heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis following recent drone-related security incidents. The Houthis have targeted the Kingdom, including an attempted drone attack towards Makkah in September, along with other attacks on Saudi territory.
