Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned that preparations are being made to “storm” Islamabad, saying the government will take action under the law against anyone who tries to shut down the federal capital.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Naqvi said the government has an Islamabad High Court order and will ensure it is implemented in full.

He urged those planning the protest not to move towards a situation from which there would be no return. He said the government would use all legal options available to deal with any attempt to disrupt the capital.

“This time, it will not be the case that you come and the country remains shut for 10 or 20 days,” Naqvi said, adding that the federal government would play a full role and a long-term plan would be put in place.

Naqvi Responds to ‘Somnat’ Remark

Asked about a reported threat to turn Islamabad into “Somnat,” Naqvi said provocative statements would not affect the government.

“Let those who make fiery statements continue making them. It makes no difference,” he said.

Interior Minister on Fuel Prices

Responding to a question about rising petroleum prices, Naqvi said he did not want to comment extensively on the economy.

He said petrol prices were linked to international market conditions and noted that fuel was unavailable in some countries.

Referring to the current situation, Naqvi said a federal minister was right in warning that petrol could become unavailable even at Rs1,000 per litre. He added that efforts were being made to secure fuel shipments.

New Provinces Matter Moving Forward

On the creation of new provinces, Naqvi said he was hopeful that new provinces would eventually be formed.

He said the process concerning new provinces was moving forward rapidly.
