Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan were transferred to Kot Lakhpat Jail after detention orders were issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner, according to officials.

The orders were issued on the recommendation of the police, with both women detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO), the officials said.

What is 3-MPO?

Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance allows authorities to detain a person to prevent them from acting in a manner considered likely to endanger public safety or public order.

The provision is generally used as a preventive detention measure rather than as punishment following a criminal conviction.

Barrister Gohar Condemns Detention

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said the party had consistently maintained that its planned march would be peaceful and political, aimed at pursuing its constitutional and political demands.

“We do not want any kind of confrontation or violence,” he said, adding that Aleema Khan’s detention would contribute to tension.

Gohar demanded Aleema Khan’s immediate release and called for such measures to be stopped.

He described the detention as “the first step towards worsening the situation” and said the party would soon announce its course of action in response.
